British Summer Care

The days are getting longer, the temperatures are getting hotter and so it’s time to pull out the big guns for skin care. Although British summers are so short-lived, the damage they can do to our skin is detrimental thus it is important to ensure you are in the know-how of adapting your beauty routine in order to survive the heat. Here at Salon House not only do we always promote the need for a good skin care routine, but also the need to cater to your skin in accordance with the weather. Especially in the summer where we’re all too busy enjoying ourselves to focus on the health of our skin.

Sunscreen, sun cream, sunblock, whatever you want to call it, is always at the centre of skin care when it comes to summer; while it is definitely imperative that you use sunscreen when exposed to the sun, there are a few other things to take care of too, including how to use sunblock properly.

  1. Reapplying sunscreen after long periods. It’s okay! We all do it. We have a beverage in one hand, the barbeque sizzling away in one corner, the kids running around and the sunblock somewhere at the bottom of our bags however it is so vital to reapply sunscreen after you’ve been in the sun for a while as its effectiveness is reduced over time. Another thing to remember is to apply sunscreen around your eyes, behind your ears and on the back of your neck. So simple but just as easily forgettable.
  2. Hydration. Yes, yes we’ve all heard it before drinking more water and as essential as that is, it is also important to hydrate your skin. Now, simply drinking water doesn’t always cut it when it comes to skin hydration. More often than not, our skin dries out after being in the sun for too long or worst-case scenario; SUNBURN. For this reason, there is a collection of moisturisers on the drug store shelves for you to take your pick. But when it comes to your face, you want to be extra careful and make sure you select products that are suited to your skin type and when the drug store products just won’t suffice, you are always welcome to pay one of our beauty therapists at Salon House a visit for a relaxing and hydrating facial specifically designed for your skin type.
  3. Double cleansing. No, you didn’t read that wrong, it does say to double cleanse. After a day of wearing sunscreen, make-up and then reapplying sunscreen (which you should all be doing) you can imagine the effect that has on your skin. There are build up products on your face and if it isn’t properly removed, it can cause acne and spots, which is something we assume everyone wants to avoid. This method of double cleansing involves, first using a foaming cleanser followed by micellar water. Not only does this give you a deep clean, but it also saves time and money.
  4. Try Treatment. The summer, as amazing as it is, can have taxing effects on our skin after all the fun and games are over. So heading to Salon House for one of our fantastic facials might be something to consider. The latest addition to our already amazing collection of facials is the COMCIT Elite by Crystal Clear. COMCIT treats ageing, dehydrated skin with results that are simply staggering and provides an instant, perfect dewy glow. It is one of Salon Houses’ most effective skin rejuvenation and rehydration treatments, which is exactly what you need after the beautiful British Summer has come and gone. But if that doesn’t tickle your fancy, come and chat with one of our consultants to have them assess your skin and provide you with a facial best suited to you.

Taking good care of your skin is important all year round and it is in your best interest to find products and a skin care routine that cater to your specific skin type but remember a few tweaks for the different seasons will do wonders for its overall health.
